According to a report by news.com.au, the NRL has decided against using microchips in footballs to help rule on forward passes.

However, the NRL Bunker may soon intervene on forward pass calls following a controversial decision made by referees in a recent game.

The incident in question occurred during the Broncos' preliminary final win over the Warriors when Reece Walsh's forward pass went unnoticed.

This has sparked a debate about whether the Bunker should have the power to review forward passes.

Since 2001, video review officials have not been able to officiate on forward passes, but ARLC chairman Peter V'landys could bring about a change.

The implementation of any technologies to solve this issue has been delayed due to the high costs involved.

With criticism that the NRL is becoming similar to gridiron, the potential intervention of the Bunker on forward pass calls could be a significant development in the sport.
