Rugby league commentator Andrew Moore has been hospitalised after suffering a heart attack.

The ABC commentator experienced the heart attack on Wednesday and has since undergone surgery, according to reports from the ABC.

Brett Sprigg, who took over Moores's role for the Thursday night match between the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm in Sydney, provided an update on Moore's health.

Sprigg noted that Moore was "a bit knocked around" but remained "in good spirits."

In a statement to ABC Sport, Moore expressed his gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff who have provided him with care.

"We are saddened to share that the colleague and friend Andrew Moore has recently suffered a heart attack," the statement read.

"All of us at ABC Sport are sending the love and best wishes to Andrew, and we can't wait to hear his voice back in the commentary box when the time is right."
