The Eels rebuild under first-year coach Jason Ryles is well and truly underway.
Ryles has made it clear: "you're either with him, or you won't be at the club." This has led to a significant clean-out, where several players have exited the team, including Ryan Matterson, who was sent to England on loan, and Dylan Brown, who was dropped after announcing his intention to join the Newcastle Knights starting in 2026.
Ryles has taken a bold approach, implementing a take-no-prisoners strategy. After a decade of limited success under former coach Brad Arthur, this shift is precisely what the blue and gold needed.
As the rebuild progresses, the focus turns to Ryles' next moves as the first free agency window approaches. With critical decisions pending for players whose contracts expire at the end of 2026, the Eels are set to actively delve into the open market beginning November 1. This strategy aims to secure additional talent for their Top 30 roster.
