Mitchell Prest is set to leave Australia for a two-year deal with Warrington Wolves in the Super League next season, having played in the Queensland Cup for the Mackey Cutters.
His World Cup could end early after the International Rugby League disciplinary panel suspended him for one match on Tuesday.
Prest accepted an early guilty plea for a Grade 1 careless high tackle on Lindsay Smith during the Kangaroos' 36-22 win over Fiji, which put Australia at 2-0.
In the 75th minute, Prest swung an arm over the top and struck Smith in the head.
It was Prest's second charge for the same offence in two matches. He received a warning after Fiji's 40-12 opening win over Cook Islands.
He could have challenged the suspension at the judiciary, but risked a two-match ban if unsuccessful.
Prest will miss Fiji's match against New Zealand on Saturday night. A major upset could keep Fiji in semi-final contention alongside Australia.
Fiji's forwards had helped bring the score to 16-16 before the Kangaroos pulled away in the second half. If New Zealand win, Prest's next match will be for Warrington.
England women's players Keara Bennett and Lucie Sams received warnings after being charged over a dangerous throw on Jillaroos opponent Sarah Togatuki.
