Fans of the NRL are uniting in support of Broncos and South Sydney premiership victor Adam Reynolds, who recently revealed that he has played his last game. This announcement follows Braith Anasta's remark that things weren't quite adding up after Reynolds had stated he trained well. However, Michael Maguire and Brisbane's medical team decided it was best for him to skip the final two matches.
Supporters had hoped to see Reynolds make one last appearance at Suncorp Stadium this Thursday when the Broncos face the Melbourne Storm. He suffered a calf injury a few weeks ago during training and had earmarked this round for his farewell match before Brisbane fans.
Reynolds disclosed on Triple M's The Rush Hour with Dobbo & Elliot that, following discussions with Maguire and the medical staff, he wouldn't be playing this weekend or next week, marking the end of his NRL career. "All NRL careers come to an end and unfortunately mine is today, I won't be playing this week or next week," Reynolds stated.
Despite this, fans are unsettled about the decision not to play him. He indicated he had a good training session and was eager to compete against the Storm. Ultimately, it was Maguire and the medical team who decided against playing Reynolds after consulting with him.
"I trained today and I thought there'd be a chance to play one last home game… but that's not to be," Reynolds reflected. He expressed that he felt good during training but acknowledged the concerns from the coaching staff about his limited training recently.
Last night on NRL 360, Broncos legend Gorden Tallis questioned why Reynolds couldn't play even for a short stint. "That would have been nice, Gordie, but unfortunately they were pretty concerned with the amount of training I've done the last couple of weeks," he replied. Reporter Brent Read echoed this sentiment, asking why Reynolds couldn't play even briefly.
Anasta noted he felt something was amiss, stating, "It seems like it's not stacking up for me. Is there an issue here?" Opinions among fans were mixed; some believed Reynolds should get a short run, while others felt the club's decision to prioritize team health was justified.
Reynolds enjoyed a decade with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, winning a premiership in 2014, before joining Brisbane in 2022 and taking on the Broncos captaincy. He notably led Brisbane to their first NRL premiership in 19 years in 2025. Reynolds also represented the NSW Blues in two State of Origin games and is expected to assume a coaching role with the Broncos next year.
