'Kudos to me old man and me uncles': Mavrik stoked to be the newest Panthers ace

Mavrik Geyer, aged 23, had a cheering squad of over 100 mates and kinfolk as he followed in the esteemed footsteps of his iconic father - who clocked in 135 games for Penrith, along with donning the blue of NSW and green and gold of Australia - and uncles Ben and Greg Alexander.

The triumvirate were part of Penrith's inaugural championship-winning squad back in '91, and even though Ben was a non-playing reserve during the grand final, Mavrik took a moment to give a shoutout to Ben - his late uncle whom he never had the chance to meet due to his tragic passing in a car accident the next year.

In contrast to his father and uncles, all of whom debuted as teens, Geyer had to patiently wait for his turn in the limelight.

Despite receiving tempting offers from other clubs, including the Storm where another uncle, Matt Geyer, clinched a premiership in '99, he never entertained the thought of lacing up for anyone but the Panthers.
