No Queensland bias on Kangaroos' Ashes Tour, Walters says

  • Australia coach Kevin Walters has stated he will not show favoritism towards Queensland players in selecting the Kangaroos squad for the upcoming Ashes Test.

  • He faces a tough choice between New South Wales' Dylan Edwards and Queensland's yet-to-be-capped Reece Walsh for the fullback position for the first Test against England on October 25 at Wembley.

  • Despite being a former winning coach for Queensland in the State of Origin series, Walters emphasized that he will remain impartial during the selection process.

  • "That's not a problem for me," he told reporters before the Kangaroos' departure for England on Wednesday morning.

  • He added, "I have actually worked with the Australian team before with Ricky Stuart, so I got a bit of a sniff there with his environment."

  • The choice between Edwards and Walsh isn't the only selection dilemma facing Walters. His squad also includes five halves, such as Tom Deardon and Mitch Moses, who were pivotal in the Kangaroos' victory over Tonga in last year's Pacific Championships final.

  • Meanwhile, Penrith's Nathan Cleary, having faced an injury-stricken 2025 season, may struggle to regain a starting position in the Kangaroos lineup.
