Sunday's Rugby League World Cup fixtures were expected to bring further lopsided results, with New Zealand meeting the Cook Islands in Christchurch and Australia facing Fiji at Suncorp Stadium.

That prospect followed a punishing day in Perth, where England's men beat France 82-0 at HBF Park.

England scored 13 unanswered tries as they tried to keep their slim semi-final hopes alive.

Australia's Jillaroos then shut out England's women 78-0, scoring 15 tries despite England having beaten Wales 70-6 a week earlier.

The two Perth matches produced a combined score of 160-0, with England claiming a narrow 82-78 moral win across the double header.

Earlier in Port Moresby, both Papua New Guinea teams got on the scoreboard but lost heavily, to Fiji and Samoa respectively.

The Kumuls were competitive against Toa Samoa in the first half and trailed 14-6 at the break.

Samoa then scored 50 unanswered points to seal a 64-6 win.
