England, France World Cup breakout hopefuls

Nine breakout World Cup stars to watch... including big Bulldogs and Broncos solutions

Junior Nsemba is contracted to Wigan Warriors until at least the end of 2030, but has left open the possibility of a future move to the NRL.

The 22-year-old England back-rower is less familiar to Australian fans than to Super League followers, despite being tipped for success from a young age.

He scored four tries in 24 Super League appearances this season and crossed in Wigan's 2026 Challenge Cup final win over Hull KR.

Nsemba made his England Test debut in the 2024 series against Samoa and earned a place in that year's Dream Team after his 2023 breakout season.

When he signed his six-year deal, he said: "At the end of the contract I'll only be 25 or 26 so I could have a decision to make," hinting at a possible NRL move.

The 2026 World Cup could bring rising players to wider attention, with the Perth Bears and PNG Chiefs among clubs seeking talent. Nsemba will also be pushing to secure an England back-row place.

France international Louis Grossemy joined Toulouse Olympique from Canterbury earlier this year, signing through to the end of the 2027 season.

The 23-year-old played seven NSW Cup games in Canterbury's back row and had previously been part of the Rabbitohs and Roosters junior systems.

He made his France debut last year through his French father and is expected to feature in the back row at the World Cup.

After starting his Toulouse stint on the bench, Grossemy finished the season as a starter, showcasing his athleticism.

With just over a year left on his contract, a strong tournament could help him secure an NRL return, potentially on a development deal with a club seeking an edge forward.
