The Wheelchair Rugby League Ashes series culminated in a thrilling showdown as England secured a 48-42 victory over Australia on the Gold Coast, clinching the series with a remarkable comeback. Joe Coyd scored a decisive try just two minutes before the end, affirming England's 2-0 triumph, despite a fierce challenge from Australia, which establishes them as formidable contenders for the upcoming Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup.

According to skysports.com, England and France have historically dominated the World Cup since its inception in 2008. However, the Wheelaroos have made significant strides in their development, particularly with an eye on hosting the 2026 competition. Australia led for much of this exhilarating second Test before ultimately falling to England.

At halftime, Australia held a commendable 30-18 lead, but Jack Brown sparked England's resurgence with a second-half display that was nothing short of spectacular. He scored two tries and assisted Lewis King, who completed a hat-trick in his second Test as England captain.

Despite their efforts, the Wheelaroos managed to keep the match tied at 42-42, thanks to an impressive individual performance from Zac Schumacher. It was Mason Billington, however, who delivered a crucial final pass to Coyd, leading to the winning try.

England managed to score nine tries to Australia's seven, but it was Bayley McKenna's flawless goalkicking, adding two tries for a total of 22 points, that posed a threat to the champions for failing to convert three of their own tries. Contrary to the first Test where England surged to a 16-0 lead, it was Australia that set the tone early, with Diab Karim scoring in the opening two minutes.
