The Parramatta Eels NRLW team has scored a major signing, securing the talent of Black Ferns star Martha Mataele as they aim to bounce back from a lackluster 2024 season and make a splash in the finals next year.

Making the switch from rugby union to rugby league, Mataele has inked a two-year deal with the Eels, committing at least until the end of the 2026 NRLW season.

The experienced and skilled player is set to bolster the Eels' roster and bring a winning edge to the team.

Having made her debut in 2019 with Canterbury in New Zealand's provincial competition, Mataele made a name for herself by scoring a try in every match during the team's 2022 campaign.

She then went on to play for Matatu in Super Rugby Aupiki's inaugural season before joining the Western Force in Perth, where she earned a spot on the Black Ferns squad to take on Australia.

"I'm absolutely stoked to be joining the Parramatta Eels and taking my talents to rugby league," Mataele exclaimed.

The Eels are counting on her to be a game-changer and help lead them to success on the field.
