The Parramatta Eels are being considered a strong contender to pursue Matt Burton, especially when he becomes a free agent on November 1.
Burton's future has been shrouded in speculation this season, raising questions about whether the Bulldogs will opt to transfer him before his contract expires in 2027.
His recent shift from five-eighth to centre suggests that the club might not view him as their long-term number six.
Additionally, with Bronson Xerri's move to Melbourne next season, Burton's future role within the Bulldogs organization appears more uncertain.
Yet, according to The Daily Telegraph's Brent Read, Xerri's departure does not guarantee Burton's retention.
"I don't think it necessarily does because they've signed Jesse McLean and there's huge raps on him. I don't think there's any guarantees that Burton stays in the centres."
