The St George and Illawarra rugby league squads joined forces over the weekend at the University of Wollongong for the kickoff of their preseason training regimen.

The club's SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup train-on squads gathered for a grueling testing and conditioning session led by their pathways coaches.

A bigger cohort of players will be put through the paces alongside the club's Jersey Flegg Cup squad this offseason, with standout SG Ball players slated to train with the older squad in November and December before returning to their Under 19s teams in the new year.

The Dragons and Steelers are coming together for a preseason push that promises to set the tone for a successful season on the rugby league field.
