Dragons look to score a new halfback but are forced to change their game plan.

St George Illawarra Dragons have decided to drop their pursuit of Brodie Croft as a replacement for Ben Hunt, who recently made his exit after a long and successful stint with the Red V.

Following Hunt's departure, Coach Shane Flanagan and the Dragons were on the hunt for a new halfback to partner with Kyle Flanagan in the crucial halves positions, aiming to make a comeback to the NRL Finals.

Having been linked to several players from both the NRL and Super League competitions, former Brisbane Broncos and Melbourne Storm playmaker Brodie Croft emerged as a potential candidate.

However, currently playing for Leeds Rhinos overseas, Croft's status as the frontrunner has now been dashed.

Despite previously being touted as the man to fill Hunt's shoes, reports from The Sydney Morning Herald now suggest that the Dragons have no interest in pursuing Croft for the role.

Known for winning the 2022 Man of Steel Award, Croft has proven himself on the international stage, rising to new heights after once being earmarked as the successor to the legendary Cooper Cronk at the Storm.
