The St George Illawarra Dragons are facing an uncertain future as star player Ben Hunt confronts the harsh reality of his looming exit from the club.
In what can only be described as a classic case of club disinterest, Hunt has revealed that the Dragons have no intention of offering him a new contract.
Despite being in the prime of his career, Hunt, who is set to celebrate his 35th birthday early next season, is facing the prospect of hitting the open market in search of a new team.
With his current contract expiring at the end of next year, Hunt is determined to continue playing well into his 36th year.
Known for his exceptional performance on the field, Hunt has even earned a spot in the Kangaroos squad for the upcoming Pacific Championships.
However, his efforts have not been enough to sway the Dragons' decision to let him go.
Speaking candidly about the situation, Hunt admitted, "The Dragons don't seem too keen on keeping me around." Despite initial discussions earlier this year about extending his contract beyond 2025, it appears that Hunt's future with the club is now in jeopardy.
"I definitely have my sights set on playing beyond next year," Hunt asserted in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.
As the Dragons prepare to part ways with their skipper, Hunt is gearing up to tackle the challenges of the open market and find a new team to call home.
