Arthur Beetson's vision of an NRL meeting between the Dolphins and Sydney Roosters is close to fulfilment, 15 years after his death in 2011.
Beetson won premierships with the Roosters in 1974 and 1975 and the Dolphins in the 1965 Brisbane Rugby League competition.
His wish will be honoured at Suncorp Stadium on Friday, when the clubs meet in a preliminary final, with the Artie Legacy Medal recognising each club-football clash's best player.
The Dolphins' 28-18 victory over the Roosters on March 5, 2023, gave the expansion club immediate credibility.
Wayne Bennett later described that result as vital to the team's progress, after critics had questioned its roster.
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Jamayne Isaako, Isaiya Katoa, Jeremy Marshall-King, Tom Gilbert, Ray Stone, Kurt Donoghoe and Connelly Lemuelu remain from that match.
Kodi Nikorima and Jack Bostock joined subsequently, while Max Plath arrived later in 2023; all three are expected to play.
Felise Kaufusi, man of the match in the inaugural victory, has recently been playing Queensland Cup.
Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader said, "I don't think we'll ever know how important that first win was, beating the Roosters here, because we apparently weren't going to win a game and we were going to have a poor squad,"
The Dolphins won their opening three matches in 2023, finished 13th, then 10th and ninth, falling one victory short of finals in both 2024 and 2025.
A dozen members of the original top-30 remain, with at least 11 set to feature on Friday.
The Dolphins also defeated the Roosters 26-12 in round 23 this season.
