The Dolphins have provided an optimistic update regarding Tom Gilbert, whose pectoral muscle injury was confirmed over the weekend.
While a ruptured pectoral muscle is known to be extremely painful and typically requires a lengthy recovery, the Dolphins are hopeful that Gilbert could be back in 12 weeks.
This could potentially allow him to return as soon as Round 24.
Gilbert, who has already missed most of the 2023 season and all of 2024, is eager to expedite his recovery in order to participate in the Dolphins' potentially historic run into the finals.
Unfortunately, this injury will also prevent him from taking part in the upcoming State of Origin series, as there is no chance of recovery before Game 3 scheduled for May 28 in Brisbane.
He had been anticipated to start for the Maroons in Game 1 of the series.
As it stands, Gilbert's focus now shifts to rehabilitation with the hope of contributing to his team's success later in the season.
