The South Sydney Rabbitohs faced significant player absences during the 2025 season, mainly due to injuries. However, Lewis Dodd, an English recruit with high expectations, was sidelined for different reasons, leading to his surprising departure after just one season.

Reflecting on his time at Redfern, Dodd expressed his feelings about his exit, revealing a tumultuous experience for the young halfback. "When I first came over, this outcome is not what you dream of," he shared with the Daily Telegraph. He acknowledged that while he wished for more playing time, he had no regrets about most aspects of his journey. "I would've changed the fact that I didn't play as much as I wanted, but I wouldn't change much else. I have learnt a lot on and off the field," he added.

Regarding his limited opportunities with the NRL team, Dodd pointed to head coach Wayne Bennett's influence as a key factor. "There were little things," Dodd mentioned, indicating that his playing time was affected by various considerations in the team's strategy.
