Concerns about Suncorp Stadium's playing surface ahead of Magic Round have been addressed by the stadium's general manager.
Following the Brisbane Broncos' impressive 42-18 victory over the Bulldogs, the field appeared damaged due to heavy rain and multiple sporting events.
Phil Rothfield highlighted the issue during the game, noting visible divots and questioning if the field could handle the upcoming eight games, particularly as more rain was forecasted.
The situation raised alarms within the rugby league community, given that nine games are scheduled during Magic Round, which is crucial for the Queensland economy, bringing in approximately $120 million.
Suncorp's grounds have historically faced scrutiny before Magic Round.
On SEN Radio, ground manager Matt Oliver acknowledged the damage from the "torrential downfall" and the impact of hosting various sporting events simultaneously.
He described the field's condition as "looking pretty sorry" but expressed confidence in their ability to restore it.
"Works are ongoing, we are doing approximately 50 per cent of the league field...
A tight turnaround such as this is nothing unusual for us.
We are fully confident we will be looking great come Thursday night," he assured.
With the women's State of Origin kickoff fast approaching, preparations are underway to ensure the field meets the high standards expected for the major NRL event.
