Dane Gagai, the outside back for Newcastle Knights, has confirmed that he will extend his tenure with the club until 2026, despite having declined an option from his previous contract.
Recent speculation surrounded Gagai, a former Queensland Origin star, as well as veteran forward Tyson Frizell, who also reportedly turned down an option.
While Frizell has yet to announce his future plans, Gagai's new deal secures his position with the Knights through 2026, potentially marking the end of his playing career.
At 34 years old, Gagai has had a notable career, debuting in 2011 with the Broncos and accumulating 309 NRL games, along with participating in 23 Origin matches and seven Tests for Australia.
He has made a significant impact at the Knights, playing 211 games over two spells: first from 2012 to 2017, and then again starting in 2022, following a four-year period with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
