Angus Crichton is preparing to depart from the Sydney Roosters after the NRL season, transitioning to rugby union with aspirations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Sources indicate that Crichton has secured a one-year contract with Rugby Australia, which includes an option for an additional season in 2028.

At 29, he is also considering overseas rugby opportunities beyond his deal with Rugby Australia, potentially leading him to Europe or Japan.

Crichton is anticipated to join the NSW Waratahs in Super Rugby Pacific, positioning him for Wallabies selection for the upcoming home World Cup next year.

Having once been a standout schoolboy rugby player, Crichton is in the final season of his contract with the Roosters, following the path of teammate Mark Nawaqanitawase to the 15-man code.

Rugby Australia is expected to officially announce Crichton's signing on Wednesday.

Throughout his 198-game NRL career, Crichton has been linked to potential moves to rugby union, particularly during his last contract negotiations in 2024.

Despite ultimately signing a two-year extension with the Tricolours, he has remained open to the idea of switching codes in the future.
