The North Queensland Cowboys have taken significant steps to secure their future by re-signing key outside backs Viliami Vailea and Zac Laybutt for two more years, through the 2026 and 2027 NRL seasons.
This move comes as part of their broader strategy to rebuild their roster in the coming seasons.
Zac Laybutt, a product of the Cowboys Young Guns program and the brother of former player Kyle Laybutt, has played ten first-grade games since his debut in 2023.
Although he was sidelined for most of last season due to an ACL injury sustained in Round 5, he is still just 23 years old, indicating potential for further development and impact in the team.
In contrast, Viliami Vailea has been more active this season, making 11 appearances.
He has scored two tries, demonstrated offensive prowess with 27 tackle busts, and achieved two line-breaks, averaging 129 running metres per game.
This re-signing reflects the Cowboys' commitment to integrating young talent into their squad as they look to bolster their lineup moving forward.
