The North Queensland Cowboys are actively pursuing Chanel Harris-Tavita, as there are concerns over Jake Clifford's future with the team.
In their quest for playmaking options, the Cowboys are reportedly considering Harris-Tavita, with coach Todd Payten having met with him, according to the Courier Mail.
Clifford's indecision regarding a proposed two-year contract has compelled the club to begin searching for alternatives.
This situation led the Cowboys to initiate discussions with Harris-Tavita, who will be a free agent next year.
While no formal offer has been made to Harris-Tavita's representatives yet, the Cowboys hope this will push Clifford to make a decision about his future, aiding their plans for the 2027 season.
Micheal Luck, North Queensland's football boss, shared with the Courier Mail that the team remains keen on retaining Clifford past 2026.
"We have been impressed with Jake's form over the opening eight weeks of the season," Luck stated.
"He worked hard to lock down his spot in the side in pre-season and he has certainly made the most of his opportunity."
"We've been in discussions with his management for some time and we are hopeful of getting a deal done."
