Cowboys lock in star before the spotlight shines

The North Queensland Cowboys have extended the contract of promising young player Mason Kira for another 12 months, despite him not yet making his NRL debut.

Kira, a highly regarded back-rower, was previously contracted with the Melbourne Storm and has shown significant potential as a "devastating ball-runner."

A former U19s QLD Maroons representative, Kira is currently on the Cowboys' development list, having previously been on a train-and-trial contract last season.

His impressive performances have led Cowboys officials to secure him until the end of 2027, according to The Courier-Mail.

This extension effectively keeps Kira out of reach of the Perth Bears, the new NRL expansion team that is looking to build its roster for the upcoming season.
