The North Queensland Cowboys are actively seeking a replacement for Reece Robson, who will join the Sydney Roosters at the end of the season.
Coach Todd Payten and the team have less than a year to identify a suitable candidate for the crucial No.
9 position.
Robson, who currently plays as a dummy-half for the NSW Blues, has left the Cowboys in need of a quality hooker to join their backbone, which includes Scott Drinkwater, Tom Dearden, and Jake Clifford.
They had previously targeted hookers Jayden Brailey, Tyson Smoothy, and Reed Mahoney, but missed out on both Brailey and Smoothy, who signed with the Canberra Raiders and Wakefield Trinity, respectively.
Mahoney, on the other hand, appears unlikely to leave his current club, Belmore.
In their search for Robson's successor, the Cowboys are now reportedly considering four new options: Billy Walters from the Broncos, Brad O'Neill from Wigan, Danny Walker from Warrington, and Tanah Boyd from the Warriors, according to News Corp.
The urgency to find a replacement highlights the Cowboys' focus on maintaining a strong competitive edge for the upcoming season.
