Corey Parker Delivers Shaun Johnson Warning as Mal Meninga Calls for Major NRL Change
Corey Parker, the former Queensland great, has issued a warning to Shaun Johnson, suggesting that the veteran halfback may struggle to keep up with the pace of representative football.
Johnson recently came out of early retirement to don the black jersey for New Zealand one last time at the Pacific Championships, amidst injuries to key players like Jahrome Hughes, Dylan Brown, and Kieran Foran.
Despite the fanfare surrounding Johnson's return, Parker believes it might not be the right move.
The ex-Warriors star, who has 32 Test matches under his belt, last played for the Kiwis back in 2019.
Parker expressed concerns about Johnson's ability to handle the intensity and speed of international rugby league, especially with the looming threat of Mal Meninga's Kangaroos targeting him.
"Shaun has had a stellar career, but as a retired player, he may struggle to match the energy and impact required," Parker remarked on SENQ.
"I'm not sure if he can deliver the same level of performance that he's known for."
With the rugby league world abuzz over Johnson's comeback, it remains to be seen whether the experienced playmaker can rise to the occasion and prove his critics wrong on the field.
