"I thought I was done," Corey Horsburgh revealed about his rollercoaster journey back to the top with Ricky Stuart's Canberra Raiders.
Despite securing a three-year contract extension, Horsburgh's first-grade dreams were shattered when Stuart benched him, leaving the fiery forward feeling like a forgotten man.
"We hit a rough patch.
I thought my days in the green jersey were over," Horsburgh confessed to The Sydney Morning Herald.
The rift between coach and player reached its peak during pre-season, with Horsburgh admitting to letting himself go and losing focus after feeling alienated by Stuart's decision.
But like a true champ, Horsburgh turned the situation around, putting in the hard yards to earn back his spot in the squad.
"I had to snap out of it, get back in shape, and prove myself all over again," Horsburgh said.
Now, with the rocky road behind him, Horsburgh is ready to make his mark once more, showing resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
