Ethan Sanders was named rookie of the year at Wednesday's Dally M Medal ceremony, beating Melbourne Storm debutant Cooper Clarke.
After a slow start to his first-grade career in Canberra in 2026, the halfback became one of the Raiders' strongest performers in the second half of the season.
Although Sanders is contracted through 2027 and could negotiate with other clubs from November 1, he told Fox Sports he expects to re-sign before then.
"I definitely won't be letting it get to November 1," Sanders told the publication.
"I'll definitely be re-signed before then.
"I love my time in Canberra so far and hopefully we can extend that for a bit longer."
It is understood Sanders will sign a two-year extension through to the end of 2029, with a substantial pay rise, though not a seven-figure salary.
The Parramatta Eels junior had previously waited behind Jamal Fogarty, but took over the Raiders' number seven jersey this year.
Canberra recruited Coby Black from Brisbane as cover at the end of 2025. He made his first-grade debut in the final round, but is expected to remain behind Sanders next season.
Sanders will enter the new year with questions to answer after Canberra's slide down the ladder during 2025.
