Wayne Bennett, rather than money, prompted Payne Haas to agree to a switch to the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Haas has committed to a three-year deal with the Rabbitohs, a move that was confirmed on Sunday afternoon.
The powerful prop will join the Maroubra-based club at the conclusion of the 2026 season.
Speculation swirled for weeks, with talk of a rift with Michael Maguire, a low offer from Brisbane and other theories.
Reports suggested the Broncos' proposal would be "significantly less" than his current pay, a claim fuelled by talk of salary-cap pressures at Red Hill.
But Haas' manager Ahmad Merhi denied money was the deciding factor and moved to dismiss suggestions of wrongdoing by Brisbane.
"Brisbane have done nothing wrong," Merhi told News Corp.
"The club has always been professional and accommodating to Payne and his family.
The CEO Dave Donaghy has always looked after Payne.
"There's no bitterness, there's not a fallout and there's no blame on Brisbane.
I've been very, very silent through this whole process.
From my perspective, once clarity was reached, the decision didn't waver.
"It was never a money decision.
No amount of money would have changed the outcome.
The principal reason is Wayne Bennett.
"He's the central driver, man.
Wayne started Payne's NRL career.
Wayne remained a mentor presence throughout Payne's career.
