Cogger Faces Suspension After Controversial High Tackle Incident

Penrith Panthers' five-eighth Jack Cogger is likely to face a three-week ban after delivering a high tackle on Melbourne Storm's half Tyran Wishart, leading to his time in the sin bin.

The Panthers secured a 22-14 victory at AAMI Park, effectively eliminating the Storm from finals contention despite the rainy conditions.

Cogger attempted to break up a Storm offensive push in the 60th minute but ended up making contact with Wishart's head as they sought to gain momentum.

The Match Review Committee announced that it was a Grade 2 careless high tackle, and since it was his third violation, they imposed a strict penalty.

The former Knight and Bulldog has the option to appeal the charge before the judiciary panel but risks a lengthier four-week suspension if found guilty.

Prior to this incident, Cogger had received a Grade 1 dangerous contact charge for a hip-drop on Angus Hinchey while he was attempting to break through from an inside ball.

This situation may lead to Blaize Talagi re-entering selection discussions, as he was dropped from the starting five-eighth role ahead of Round 21.

On the other hand, Melbourne's Josh King was penalized for a hip-drop tackle on Moses Leota, leaving the Samoan international in visible discomfort due to a knee issue.

Although no penalty was awarded during the game and Leota resumed play after a brief delay, the MRC identified this as foul play, resulting in a $1,000 fine for King following an early plea.
