John Cartwright has announced his exit from Hull FC at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

This news comes shortly after the Manly Sea Eagles made headlines by parting ways with Anthony Seibold just three matches into the 2026 NRL season, while doubts persist around St George Illawarra Dragons head coach Shane Flanagan.

Since taking the reins at Hull FC in early 2025, Cartwright has been instrumental in the club's turnaround, bringing them closer to the finals after they struggled with only three wins in the previous year.

"John joined the club during a challenging period and has played an important role in restoring stability and competitiveness on the field," chief executive officer Richie Myler stated in an official announcement regarding Cartwright's departure.

"The board would like to place on record its sincere thanks for John's contribution during his time with the club."

Prior to his time at Hull, the former representative second-rower had an extensive coaching career in the NRL, serving as the longest-tenured coach for the Gold Coast Titans from 2007 to 2014 over a span of 186 games.

Afterward, he was an assistant at the Brisbane Broncos before taking the leadership position at Hull FC.

At 60, Cartwright has not disclosed his future plans, but he seems unlikely to continue in the UK after his two-year contract concludes, indicating a possible return to Australia for either a head coach or assistant role starting next year.

He will complete his commitments with Hull throughout the 2026 season before transitioning to new opportunities.
