Coaches' Gamble Pays Off in Thrilling Victory

Ciraldo’s shock spine reveal after late Crichton shake-up... and why it could only be the beginning

Cameron Ciraldo has shed light on his surprising decision to revamp his spine by positioning Stephen Crichton at five-eighth, a move that ultimately led to a narrow victory against the Sea Eagles.

In an impressive performance, Crichton not only converted the decisive field goal in golden point but also made a notable impact by scoring, effectively taking on the role of first receiver and exchanging places with Matt Burton.

Initially slated for the No.6 jersey, Burton transitioned to the centres when the Bulldogs took to the field, a strategic adjustment that Ciraldo deemed "always an option" for his team.

This shift may indicate a new direction for the Bulldogs, especially if Ciraldo's remarks are to be interpreted seriously.

"At a time where we've been a bit short in the halves over the last two pre-seasons, Critta's jumped in there and he's shown a lot of potential in that position," Ciraldo stated during his post-match press conference.

"(It's) something we have always had in the back of the minds that it might happen one day, and we have seen little glimpses of it throughout the last couple of years."
