Cleary's Decision on PNG Chiefs: No Move for the NRL Coach
In light of recent speculation about his potential role as coach for the PNG Chiefs, Ivan Cleary, the successful coach of the Penrith Panthers and a four-time premiership winner, has made a definitive choice regarding the opportunity.
This decision indicates that the PNG Chiefs will now seek other coaching candidates to fill the position.
Among those who have shown interest are Super League coaches including Adrian Lam from the Leigh Leopards, Jason Demetriou of the London Broncos, and Willie Peters from Hull KR, all of whom have been considered viable options in recent months.
By opting not to pursue the PNG Chiefs role, Cleary's choice also means that his son, Nathan Cleary, a standout halfback, will not be joining the team either. Nathan is currently focused on evaluating his own future in the sport over the next few months.
