The PNG Chiefs are setting their sights on Wests Tigers back-rower Samuela Fainu as a key addition to their roster for their inaugural NRL season.
As one of three brothers at the Tigers, alongside Latu and Sione, Samuela is under contract until the end of 2027, with the opportunity to negotiate with other clubs commencing on November 1 this year.
Benji Marshall's team could face significant repercussions due to Luai's early exit. Reports indicate that the Chiefs and Luai had previously agreed that while he remained with Concord, the expansion team would refrain from pursuing any of his Tigers teammates.
With Luai now set to join Parramatta next season after being let go by the Tigers, that understanding is nullified, opening the door for the Chiefs to approach Tigers players.
Samuela made his NRL debut in 2023 with the Manly Sea Eagles before transitioning to the Tigers for the 2024 season.

Despite battling a foot injury that sidelined him for 10 weeks this season, he has made a significant impact, starting in every game at second row. In nine games this year, Fainu has scored three tries and boasts an impressive tackle efficiency of 94 percent.
On a different note, Fainu is also awaiting confirmation of his eligibility to represent Fiji in this year's Rugby League World Cup, having switched his international allegiance from Tonga along with his brothers.
The Tigers are reportedly considering the retention of the Fainu brothers as part of their long-term roster strategy, with financial flexibility from Luai's departure likely aiding in securing new contracts for Samuela, Latu, and Sione.
