Carrigan in Contract Extension Talks with Broncos

The Brisbane Broncos have reportedly initiated discussions with lock forward Patrick Carrigan regarding an extension of his contract and a salary increase.

As one of the club's pivotal players, Carrigan is often seen as a future captain, potentially stepping into the role by 2027, especially if Adam Reynolds decides to retire at the end of his current contract-a scenario that appears increasingly likely.

Although Carrigan's existing contract runs until the end of 2028, it was signed in 2023 and is significantly lower than what he could earn after 2025.

According to News Corp, Carrigan's management has begun talks with the Broncos to address this discrepancy. It's important to note that the Queensland Maroons Origin player, who is returning to play in this Sunday's grand final against the Melbourne Storm after serving a suspension during the preliminary final, has no intentions of leaving Brisbane.

Currently, Carrigan's salary is approximately $750,000 per year; however, should he enter the open market, he could secure a deal worth $1 million or more. His earnings are considerably less than those of other top locks like Cameron Murray, Jake Trbojevic, and Isaah Yeo.

"Pat is very happy at the Broncos and we're having some chats at the moment on an upgrade," Carrigan's manager, Jeff Jurotte, confirmed to the publication.
