The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have presented an offer to prop Samuel Hughes to remain with the team. He is expected to sign a one-year extension that will keep him at the club until the conclusion of the 2027 season.
After participating in five games during the 2023 season, Hughes secured a steady position in the squad in 2024, marking their return to finals for the first time in over five years.
During the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Hughes played a total of 18 games but has not been on the field since round 10 this year.
He has been sidelined with a neck injury sustained before Round 11 and has not featured since the team's 44-12 defeat to the Dolphins.
According to WWOS, the 25-year-old was close to accepting an offer to leave the club.
Previously, Hughes received a contract proposal from the Catalans Dragons in the Super League before the Bulldogs decided to offer him an extension.
Moreover, the Perth Bears had engaged in negotiations with Hughes for a while, but he chose not to relocate to Western Australia.
There's an expectation that after the 2027 season, he will move to the Super League, with Catalans willing to wait for him to join in the 2028 season.
As of now, the Bulldogs have not made any signings for the 2027 season and have seven spots available in their top 30 roster.
