Lachie Galvin's signing with the Canterbury Bulldogs has led to significant changes within the team, particularly concerning hooker Reed Mahoney.

Following the announcement that halfback Toby Sexton will join the Catalans Dragons in the Super League from 2026, reports have emerged indicating that Mahoney will also leave Canterbury at the end of the current season.

According to Code Sports, Mahoney has signed a three-year deal with North Queensland, where he will take over from Blues Origin hooker Reece Robson, who is set to join the Roosters.

This shake-up continues after Galvin's recruitment, and it opens the door for Bailey Hayward to establish himself as the Bulldogs' long-term No.9.

Canterbury has been non-committal about Mahoney's future amid the signing of Galvin, which has further complicated Mahoney's position in the team.

His frustrations were evident when he was benched during Galvin's first game, and there have been ongoing discussions regarding Mahoney's future with the club.

Known for being a tenacious player with a history of on-field disciplinary issues, Mahoney has nonetheless been instrumental in the Bulldogs' recent improvement.

The coaching strategy has seen Mahoney pushed into a lesser role, with coach Cameron Ciraldo opting to shift Sexton to hooker and utilize Galvin in the halves during matches.

As the situation evolves, the Bulldogs appear to be realigning their roster, setting up new dynamics for the coming seasons.
