In saddening news for the Canterbury Bulldogs, beloved club legend and iconic figure Geoff Robinson has passed away at the age of 66.
Known affectionately as 'Robbo' during his playing days, he left a lasting legacy at the club.
Robinson, a formidable front-rower, left his mark on the field in 139 games for the Bulldogs between 1977 and 1984.
After a brief stint with Halifax in England, he returned to the Bulldogs in 1986, showcasing his raw talent and fierce determination.
A key player in the team's premiership victories in 1980 and 1984, Robinson's fearless style of play earned him a place in fans' hearts.
His memorable appearances at Belmore Sports Ground, with his signature long black hair and powerful hit-ups, made him a cult hero among supporters.
Despite a heartbreaking loss to the Parramatta Eels in the 1986 Grand Final, Robinson's dedication and passion for the game never wavered.
His contributions were duly recognized when he was bestowed with Life Membership of the Football Club in 1994.
Following his retirement, Robinson transitioned into coaching, leading the Bulldogs U21s to a premiership in 1991.
He also lent his expertise to the Chester Hill Rhinos in the Jeam Beam Cup from 2007 to 2009, continuing to inspire the next generation of players.
Geoff Robinson's legacy as a Bulldog will forever be etched in Rugby League history, with his fierce spirit and unwavering commitment embodying the essence of the game.
He will be dearly missed by fans, teammates, and the Rugby League community at large.
