Bulldogs bark, Mahoney's future in question

LeagueNews.co | Cooper McEnroe

The Canterbury Bulldogs have granted hooker Reed Mahoney permission to explore contract negotiations elsewhere, even though he has a year remaining on his current deal, which expires at the end of 2026.

According to reports from zerotackle.com and Fox Sports, Mahoney may leave the club at the end of the season if he secures a new contract.

Phil Gould, the Bulldogs' director of football, officially allowed Mahoney to negotiate and emphasized that the club should be informed of any offers he receives.

This development coincides with reports that head coach Cameron Ciraldo is considering dropping Mahoney from the first-grade team once he has a full roster available after the State of Origin window.

Mahoney has faced issues with discipline, often giving away penalties and struggling to manage his temperament on the field.
