Fans of the NRL are sending their best wishes to Bryan Fletcher after the beloved former player was rushed to the hospital from his radio show on Monday afternoon. The 52-year-old is known for his work with Fox Sports and hosts the afternoon 'run home' show on SEN alongside Joel Caine.
While on air, Fletcher experienced intense stomach pains and had to be taken to the hospital. Though he was back on the air by Tuesday afternoon, he stayed home instead of heading to the studio.
Fletcher explained that he needed to pass two kidney stones, describing the excruciating pain as "literally like turning on a light switch. And I went, 'Oh, geez' that's not great. And then it just got progressively worse.''
His show's producer, Alex Molchanoff, drove him to the hospital, where he vomited while waiting for medical assistance. "He took my car and I just told Alex to floor it," Fletcher shared. "I was forcing him to get through red lights. I think it shocked him a little bit because then I threw up everywhere in the emergency room. And when I say throw up, it was like projectile."
Denied anything to drink due to potential operation requirements, he recalled receiving "copious amounts of fentanyl that didn't work." After a CT scan confirmed kidney stones, he was given a suppository he had to administer himself, leading to relief later that night when "two little rocks popped out."
After 125 games with the Roosters and 45 with Souths, Fletcher was discharged around 2 am on Tuesday. He plans to return to the SEN studio for Wednesday's show. Fans expressed their concerns and support on social media, with comments like: "I hope he's ok," and "Hope you have a speedy recovery soon."
