The Brisbane Broncos face increasing pressure to impose a social media ban on Reece Walsh following concerns over his online behavior. Reports indicate the club has even contemplated hiring someone to guide Walsh on his posting habits. This situation has raised additional doubts about whether coach Michael Maguire has implemented meaningful changes since assuming his role.
Walsh attracted attention this week when he shared a video of himself drinking water from a toilet. The intent behind the video was comedic, featuring Walsh using a newly installed toilet.
However, the reaction from Broncos management was not favorable, leading to a statement discouraging others from mimicking his actions. "The club can clarify that Walsh is currently renovating his home and has installed a brand-new toilet in a new bathroom which remains unused," the statement read.
"The video represents a poor attempt at humour posted privately by Walsh. No one should take this video seriously or act upon the advice."
In the clip, Walsh stated: "They reckon there is a new form of recovery, to recover the muscles. They reckon if you just fill with water ... and get a little drink."
Following the incident, commentator Adam Hawse asserted that the Broncos should insist Walsh deactivate his social media accounts. "If we're giving out advice, Broncos, I'll give you some advice - get Reece off social media," Hawse remarked on 2GB radio. "It's that simple.
"It's been described as bizarre - that's being kind, I think. We laugh at it, but I certainly hope kids didn't watch that and take that advice."
