Brisbane Broncos' edge back rower, Brendan Piakura, is set for an extended period away from the field due to a series of concussions sustained in recent years.
This upcoming absence raises concerns regarding the future of the talented Cook Islander, particularly after enduring his fifth concussion last weekend.
As reported by News Corp, Piakura will not participate in the upcoming Queensland derby against the North Queensland Cowboys, following a concussion suffered during the match against the Panthers.
Having just returned from a concussion two weeks prior, the Broncos are expected to adopt a cautious strategy concerning Piakura's long-term health.
According to NRL Physio, Piakura has experienced five concussions over the last three seasons.
Xavier Willison is expected to step in for Piakura on the edge while he recovers.
Willison proved to be a solid alternative, racking up 225 metres against the Panthers, most of which came after taking Piakura's place in the 13th minute.
Following this latest head injury, Piakura will be consulting with medical professionals.
"Brendan's health and wellbeing is the most important thing at the moment," stated Broncos football boss Troy Thomson in comments to News Corp.
