Brisbane Broncos player Billy Walters is determined to fight for his position as he prepares for Ben Hunt's anticipated return from injury.
After suffering an MCL injury against the Rabbitohs in round 10, Hunt was initially expected to be fit for the upcoming game against the Warriors.
However, he has not recovered in time and will sit out for another week, leading coach Michael Maguire to start Cory Paix at dummy-half, with Walters coming off the bench.
The roles of Paix and Walters have varied throughout the season as Maguire seeks the best combination for the team.
With Paix securing the starting role, Walters finds himself in a challenging position as he looks to prove his worth before Hunt returns to the No.9 spot.
Walters expressed his commitment to holding onto his jersey, stating, "I feel like everyone's position's up for grabs.
You have got to be playing good footy or you're not going to be in the team." He acknowledges the ongoing competition between him and Paix, saying, "It's kind of been up to me and Paixy to see who's playing the best or see who can bring the most to the team."
He remains hopeful for his chances, adding, "I keep asking Dozer (Hunt) when he's going to be back, hoping he can push it back a little bit further just to make sure I'm in the team.
But even if I'm not in the team I'll still be trying hard to get back in." Walters recognizes the unpredictability of rugby league, emphasizing the importance of being ready and seizing opportunities as they arise.
