Brisbane Broncos fans are increasingly calling for the return of Ben Ikin after the team's alarming decline since his exit.
Ikin, who served as the head of football for the Broncos, left in 2023 to become the CEO of Queensland Rugby League.
His departure followed significant changes in his role, amidst rumors of discord with then-coach Kevin Walters.
Initially, Walters reported to Ikin, but organizational shifts allowed him to directly report to CEO Dave Donaghy, undermining Ikin's authority.
Upon leaving, Ikin remarked, "The short answer is I came in expecting to do a certain number of things, some of those things dropped off, and I picked up some other projects."
Despite making the grand final in 2023, the Broncos have since plummeted in performance.
They finished 12th in 2024, resulting in Walters' sacking, and are currently 11th after 13 rounds in 2025 under new coach Michael Maguire.
This poor performance has ignited discussions about leadership and management within the club's board.
Ikin's name has surfaced as a potential savior to reestablish the club's previous glory.
Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment.
One user stated, "The Broncos messed up major when they let Ben Ikin walk." Another urged, "Bring Ben Ikin back no matter what it takes.
This club is a joke and should be viewed as one." Additionally, a third fan remarked, "When Ikin was pushed out because Kevvie had his ego bruised, that was the end.
Ikin got practically zero credit for turning the place around - now we are back in the same hole as 2020/21."
Overall, the situation at the Broncos raises questions about the club's future and the potential for Ikin's return to help rejuvenate the team's fortunes.
