Jack Underhill will remain at Canterbury after coach Cameron Ciraldo persuaded the promising forward to abandon plans for a possible Queensland return.
The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday that the pair held a "heart-to-heart" meeting, after which Underhill committed to fighting for his place at the Bulldogs in 2027.
The 22-year-old is contracted through 2028, having signed a three-year extension last year after starring in the Jersey Flegg grand final.
Underhill debuted in Round 11 and made seven NRL appearances during 2026, but spent the final two months in reserve grade.
That limited opportunity reportedly frustrated him, despite Bulldogs football boss Phil Gould previously calling him one of the club's "brightest prospects".
Last month, reports claimed Underhill had requested a release to return to Queensland.
The Courier Mail said Brisbane were interested because of their forward shortage, while Underhill's Sunshine Coast background could also have favoured the Broncos or Dolphins.
Ciraldo denied the release request at the time, saying, "He hasn't personally come to me and asked for that, so that's not true," and adding, "With the season on the line, it's disappointing that something like that has been leaked to the media."
Brisbane's forward depth has worsened following Payne Haas's move to South Sydney and Corey Jensen's medically forced retirement.
The Broncos have recruited Mitch Barnett and Shawn Blore, while Jack Gosiewski and Jaiyden Hunt have also departed.
