Brisbane Broncos snag star from Melbourne Storm, foreshadowing departures

Bad news for Selwyn Cobbo as Brisbane Broncos sign star outside back from Melbourne Storm

In a blow to Selwyn Cobbo, the Brisbane Broncos have snapped up star outside back Grant Anderson from the Melbourne Storm, potentially putting Cobbo or Kotoni Staggs on shaky ground at the club.

With the recent signing of Ben Hunt and hefty contracts for Reece Walsh, Payne Haas, and Ezra Mam, it seems inevitable that either Cobbo or Staggs might find themselves squeezed out.

New coach Michael Maguire is optimistic about keeping both centres on board, but the addition of Anderson for the 2026 season appears to be a safety net.

Anderson, 25, has an impressive record of 12 tries in 24 games with the Storm and comes at a more affordable price compared to Cobbo and Staggs.

Both Broncos players have represented in State of Origin and for Australia, making them hot commodities in the market where rival clubs could offer up to $1 million per year for their services.

Recent reports suggest that Cobbo may have to rethink his contract demands in order to remain at the Broncos, with negotiations on hold until after the pre-season.

Maguire remains hopeful that both Cobbo and Staggs will remain part of the team moving forward.
