Brisbane Broncos legend retires under suspension

Brisbane Broncos cop massive blow as Melbourne Storm retain key figure amid interest from rivals

Tarryn Aiken is expected to start at halfback when the Jillaroos open their World Cup campaign against Samoa on Friday 16 October at CommBank Stadium.

The Roosters halfback was involved in the incident that will bring Ali Brigginshaw's top-level playing career to a suspended close.

The retiring Brisbane Broncos and Jillaroos great made dangerous contact with Aiken's kicking leg in the 23rd minute of Sunday's NRLW Grand Final, which the Roosters won 30-6.

Brigginshaw was placed on report, and many were surprised she avoided the sin bin during the match.

On Monday, the NRLW Match Review Committee charged her with Grade 1 Dangerous Contact, carrying a one-match ban with an early guilty plea.

Brigginshaw was not selected for the Jillaroos' World Cup squad, meaning her playing career is over.

Earlier this year, she received a three-match suspension for a Grade 3 dangerous throw that sent Bulldogs halfback Tayla Preston head-first into the turf.

Neither Preston nor Aiken was injured in the incidents.
