Bulldogs celebrate the appointment of first female referees

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have expressed their joy and support for the appointment of Belinda Sharpe and Kasey Badger as the first female referees in the NRL under the single referee system.

The Bulldogs, known for their commitment to equality in the sport, see this as a significant step forward for women in rugby league.

Sharpe will take charge of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles versus Wests Tigers match at 4 Pines Park on Friday, while Badger will officiate the Bulldogs' game against the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium.

Badger brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a touch judge in 161 NRL matches.

She has also been an official in 43 matches as a Bunker Review Official.

In addition, Badger has previously refereed the NRL Telstra Women's Premiership Grand Final in 2018, 2019, and 2022.

She even had the honor of refereeing the men's World Cup match between Tonga and Wales in 2022.

NRL Executive General Manager - Elite Football, Graham Annesley, praised both Sharpe and Badger for their well-deserved place in history.
