Brandon Smith's Jersey Swap: Is Change in the Air?

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Brandon Smith's tenure with the Sydney Roosters is ending sooner than anticipated, as reports indicate he will immediately join a new team for the remainder of the 2025 NRL season.

Initially moving to the Roosters in early 2023 after six years and 107 matches with the Melbourne Storm, Smith has struggled to meet expectations and has not reached his full potential at the Bondi-based club.

Despite being on a contract worth approximately $850,000 per season, Smith has faced difficulties finding consistency, leading to what is now confirmed as his final match for the Roosters.

He has already arranged to join the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, but The Daily Telegraph reports that he will join them immediately for the rest of this year.

Following a mid-season transfer, Smith, who is currently recovering from an ACL injury, will not play again for the Roosters.

The Rabbitohs are expected to pay around $180,000 to secure his services for the remainder of the season, according to the publication.
