Jonah Glover, a newcomer to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, has disclosed that his decision to leave the St George Illawarra Dragons was driven by limited opportunities for a career in the NRL.
The halfback spent the entire year of 2025 playing in the NSW Cup, where he successfully led the Dragons' reserve grade team to the grand final, sharing the field with teammates Lachlan Ilias and Lyhkan King-Togia.
While Ilias has since transferred to the Gold Coast Titans, Glover faced stiff competition from King-Togia, Kyle Flanagan, and new recruit Daniel Atkinson-who joined from the Cronulla Sharks-all of whom were likely positioned ahead of him, despite his notable performances in reserve grade.
In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Glover acknowledged that the move to the Rabbitohs offered a better chance for him to make his NRL debut.
"It was a good year in Cup at the Dragons, I really enjoyed my time, but I felt like I was never going to make the NRL at the Dragons, so I moved to the Rabbitohs," Glover shared with the publication.
"It was hard to get a look in. I felt like I played pretty well, but just didn't get the opportunity to play."
He expressed hope for the future, stating, "Hopefully, next year I'll be able to make a stand and make my NRL debut."
